My husband, his father, his step-mother and I spent a day with Gene and his guide Scott on a drift boat adventure on the Bow River. Gene was so much fun to be with. He knew loads about the history and ecology of the river. He taught me a bunch about the flies to use and new casting techniques that I will use for years to come. He even helped us make mediocre casts work better with his truly amazing rowing skills. Best of all he brought us right to some beautiful fish and breathtaking water. Gene even accommodated our request for spin fishing gear for our parents who don't fly fish. But by the end of the day they had my father-in-law fly casting like he was champ. He even admitted it was his favourite part of our two week trip in Alberta. I can't think of a better way to spend the day with your family (Celia, Wisconsin, USA).
Dad and I took a trip down the Bow with Gene and had a fantastic day of fishing! In fact, I can't remember ever having a better day in terms of number and quality of fish and overall experience. Gene was very well prepared, extremely knowledgeable about the section of river we were fishing, and extremely helpful in getting our drifts and rig depths just right. I love the boat as well, it was very spacious and had a lot of room to maneuver and very few things to catch your line on. Also very clean and organized - you can tell Gene takes pride in his work, but judging by his never ending enthusiasm you can tell he loves to do this as well. I will definitely be giving Gene a call for our next float. Tons of fun! Cheers! (Patrick, Alberta, Canada).
My husband and I did a float with Gene on the Bow River and had a great day. First thing you notice is his organization and preparedness for the day, he keeps his boat meticulous. Gene has a contagious enthusiasm and gets you all psyched for a great day. He has solid knowledge of the river, exactly where to place your fly and where the fish are. He is helpful with tips and encouragement. My husband is a better fly fisherman than I, but Gene put me up front to get first dibs at the fish and I had a great day! He also goes a step above and does a shore barbecue meal for lunch, which is a nice a perk above a typical sandwich, especially if you get a chill, the warm meal is fantastic. I would recommend Gene and Shallow Water Drift Company to anyone looking to fish the Bow River. I will always be going back with Gene (Denise, Alberta, Canada).
We spent a long day catching many trout of all sizes, learned a lot about fly fishing and enjoyed a beautiful day, with an awesome lunch on side of the river. Strongly recommended if you like fishing. Gene was incredibly knowledgeable and organized and made everything more enjoyable (Ken, Alberta, Canada).
